Recently singer Beyonce has been paying a lot of homage to Afro-Caribbean spirituality. In her 2016 Grammy performance as well as her acclaimed "Lemonade" and "Hold Up" music videos she is adorned as the Afro-Caribbean female goddesses Oshun and Mami Wata respectively. These goddesses are known as Orishas (spirits).
This combined with numerous personal and professional photos with Orisha reference leads one to believe this is reflective her practice, belief or religion as opposed to a momentary artistic expression. However, she is not alone. There are an estimated 100 million followers of the Santeria "religion" worldwide. That's 10 times the number of Jehovah's Witnesses by comparison. It is one of the worlds fastest growing religions.
So what is Santeria or Afro-Caribbean spirituality? Santeria which actually means Worship of Saints is the worship of ancient spirit deities or commonly known as voodoo. It became intertwined with Catholicism as a way to conceal it's true nature. The practice of voodoo magic and the occult was forbidden by the Spaniards so the slaves disguised their Orishas as Catholic saints. Thus you see images of Catholic saint imagery in Afro-Caribbean and Santeria rituals.
Santeria is a complex religion, but on a high level mainly involves the making of sacrifices to the spirits and in return these spirits will grant money, magical powers or whatever the person requests depending on the magnitude of the offering. Psychic rape and robbery are a couple of the devious things enabled to the practitioners of Santeria. Another more well known is the sacrifice of animals. The larger or more powerful the animal the greater energy and value of the offering, thus the greater return from the Orisha. Human sacrifice is denied by practitioners but then that would be admitting to murder - so what would you expect them to say? Logically a human would have a greater "life force" than a chicken, right?
Beyonce has been riddled with occult / Illuminati connections for years - much by her own doing so the practice of Santeria would not exactly be a stretch for her. We invite you to research the practices of spirit worship and the occult you will be amazed how much of an influence it has on society and modern culture.
